On a cool, wet Saturday morning, twenty-one Ozark Section members, in ten Mercedes-Benzes, met in south Fayetteville for a fall foliage poker run through the Ozark Mountains and down the famous “Pig Trail” to a wonderful destination in the town of Altus. The rain made the start of the run a little annoying, yet with twenty-one umbrellas we were able to choose the playing cards, write the values down and head out for the next stop. With all this aside, we had a wonderful time. The color change really hadn’t developed as we hoped, but the camaraderie, the beauty of the back roads and the final destination at the Post Winery in Altus made the event a success. Once inside the winery, it was wine tasting and shopping time prior to lunch. The last playing card, out of five, was drawn at the winery in the dining room. The cost to participate was $10.00 person, and winner was to receive half the jackpot with the other half being donated to the Ozark Section. Going into the winery, it appeared there was a tie between Jan Sweitzer and Dave Jones. They both drew an ace, so once again they were tied. They decided to draw one more card, and the highest card won. Dave Jones took the honors of winning and chose to donate his winnings back to the Ozark Section’s treasury for future needs. Thank you so much, Dave!! I want to personally thank Ruth Shafer for her assistance along with my wife Dottie and all who attended for making this event memorable.
